Our History
One of Australia's Oldest Continuously Operating Trading Organisations

Sydney's fresh produce markets trace their origins to 1788, when the First Fleet established the colony's first trading markets on the wharves of Sydney Cove. For over 200 years, through the Belmore Markets at Haymarket, the Municipal Markets of the early 1900s, and the move to Flemington in 1975, Sydney Markets has never stopped trading.

Today Sydney Markets Limited continues that unbroken tradition, operating Australia's largest fresh produce and flower markets and serving as the backbone of the NSW food supply chain.
